SFX J-Term day 3! Character and gore makeup.

Today we all had so much fun experimenting with two very different types of makeup. In the morning, we focused on transforming ourselves into various characters, building on skills and techniques we’ve learned in previous days of this J-Term. Some people designed their very own characters and others took inspiration from pictures of existing ones. A few of the looks we created were Tim Burton characters, Cheshire cat, fairies, beetlejuice, the evil queen, and the queen of hearts. We had Alice in Wonderland playing while we completed these looks as inspiration for a film that included character makeup. Once lunch rolled around, most people had finished their makeup, though a few kept working into the afternoon.

After lunch, we transitioned into trauma and gore makeup. For a this section, I guided my peers in learning how to make SFX cuts with scarwax, cream paint, and fake blood. After we had all successfully completed the scar wax cuts, Ms. Bowman walked us through a different strategy of making fake cuts. This included liquid latex instead of wax. We also watched some helpful tutorial videos and discussed application techniques as well as what other makeup looks the scar wax and liquid latex could be used for. So excited to work on more trauma and gore tomorrow and to start thinking of designs for our final looks!
